SUPER HEART!

Did you ever wonder why superheroes always have their symbol on their chests?
Because deep down inside, we all know that's where our true power resides.

Researchers have now proven that the heart is 100x more powerful electrically, and up to 5,000x more powerful magnetically than the brain. Yes, the heart runs the show. It actually sends more messages to the brain than the brain does to the heart.

Begin today to think, feel and act from your heart center. Wherever the mind goes, energy follows. Focus on your heart and transform your life!

13 POWERS

Thirteen powers do the Witches claim
Their birthright in Aradia's name
In the mirror see reflected
Yourself as Witch with power perfected
In classic benediction, confer
And with sincerity, speak these words:
A Witch can grant success in love
Curse or bless through the gods above.
Converse with beasts and spirits alike
Command the weather; cast out a blight
Read signs, omens and the stars of night
Divine the future and give sage advice
Conjure treasure and bring fortune to bear
Heal the sick and kill despair
For the powers to be maintained
Observe the seasons as they wax and wane

Sign of the Witch

Yes...it's another excerpt from my soon-to-be-released book...

THE PENTACLE
This is an article I wrote for a local newspaper in response to another article regarding our sacred symbol, the Pentacle.  I wanted to include it here, as you will no doubt encounter these very same prejudices that have been around for centuries.  I hope that you will be able to use some of the information to curb the fears of those people in your life that simply don't understand your path.
The Pentacle, a five-pointed star or pentagram contained within a circle, is one of the oldest geometric symbols known to humankind.  It has a very rich history in the spiritual and magickal customs of many cultures and is a diagram of all existence, encompassing both Creatrix and creation.
The pentagram related to the size and shape of the world and gave insights into other worlds and the universe beyond.  The lengths of its various lines gave the basic pitch and tone for all music, and the basic ideal lengths and proportions of all classical architecture.
The Pentagram and Pentacle were used as a salutation to the Goddess in her Astarte aspect as Empress of the Sea and was once customarily tattooed on a sailor's "mound of Venus" between the thumb and forefinger of the right hand.  In ancient Egypt, it represented the great underground womb of Mother Earth.  Ancient Babylonians used the Pentacle as an amulet of protection and healing.  In Judeo-Christian traditions, it is the first of the seven seals representing the secret name of God and was worn as a signet ring by Solomon as a sign of his power to work magick.  Pythagorean mystics revered the pentagram which they called "Pentalpha" because it consisted of five interlaced Alphas or A's, the first letter of the Greek alphabet representing birth and beginnings.  In ancient Greece, it was the symbol of Kore or Persephone, the maiden goddess of Spring who brought warmth and growth to the Earth.  The apple has always been associated with goddess worship, and when cut cross-wise contains a pentagram made up of five seeds in its core.  The Gypsy call this seed-pentagram the "Star of Knowledge."  When Catholicism encountered the Pentacle in Old Europe, it adopted the symbol to represent the five wounds of Christ.
In its most basic metaphysical meaning, the pentagram represents the elements that make up the universe.  The top point of the star stands for the fifth element, that of Spirit.  Spirit meaning the pure essence, the central beginning point of all things.  From there, reading clockwise, we have Water, Fire, Earth and Air.  In Leonardo da Vinci's famous illustration of Microcosmic Man, we have a physically pleasing and proportional figure suspended within the pentagram and surrounded by a circle which unifies all.  Here we find a representation of "humankind made perfect", incorporating the concepts of all the elements in balance within the body and soul.
How does all this relate to Wicca/Witchcraft?  Well, Witches accept most, if not all these views of the Pentacle.  The Pentacle is central to Wicca and Paganism as a very sacred symbol.  Some believe it to represent the four elements of life controlled by spirit, with the center representing divine energy which exists in all of us.
The inverted Pentacle with two of the points uppermost is a representation of the Horned God, a pagan god of fertility and hunting and consort to the Goddess, much like the Greek Pan.  It may also represent spirit controlled by matter (the four elements of life).  For those Witches following traditions with a degree system, the inverted Pentacle is often used as a sign of the second degree.  As you can see, the Pentacle not only has multiple symbolic references to the relationship between spirit and matter, but it also represents the creative movement of the universe and the central rhythm of all life.
Madame Blavatsky, the founder of Theosophy, thought the reversed pentagram the symbol of the age of violence and darkness we now live in.  I believe this to be where much of the misconceptions began.  The Pentacle is in no way exclusively related to Satanism or Christianity, for that matter.  Satanists will also use the upright Pentacle, the ankh, the swastika, and many others.  The main thing to remember is that Satanism borrows from all religious beliefs, corrupting the meanings of its sacred symbology.  It is an anti-religion and thrives on confusion of issues and symbols.  What this means to us as Witches since we use many of the same symbols is simply, we use them based on their original ancient meaning, as closely as literature and archaeology can discern.
So, the next time you see a Pentacle, don't allow superstition to overcome you.  You now have an educated standpoint from which to make a decision as to whether it is representing something that you do not wish to submit yourself to or something positive and life-affirming.

Animal Spirit Reading...

As always, the Animal Spirits simply reaffirm the message I was trying to relay with the "Morning Devotion" post.
By reaffirming your dedication to the Goddess and the Path, you focus your day on the positive.  It's amazing how the normal stresses of your daily workload are alleviated by remembering who you are.

Wake up! Cardinal is chirping at you.  He brings a message of personal power.  Stop shrinking from your destiny.  Stop pretending that you are less than. Cardinal medicine can teach you how to manifest dreams and ideas by focusing intention where it's needed.  If you're unsure of your path, ask Cardinal to fly with you.  He will help you to understand and find your own song in life.  Are you doing what needs to be done or should be done?  Are you voicing your ideas?  When you listen to Cardinal's lessons, it’s certain he will help you focus, gain clarity, formulate a plan, become self-assured, and step out into the world with the confidence befitting a person of your power.

Another Excerpt from Awakening the Witch...the Circle Experiment

POWER OF THE CIRCLE EXPERIMENT

For this exercise you will need a clean piece of paper, a pen or pencil and something you can use as a pendulum.  Anything with some weight to it will work (i.e., a key, a pendant, a necklace, a plumb).  Tie a string to it (something thin, like thread, works best), and hold it above a flat surface to make sure it's balanced well.
On your piece of paper, draw a clockwise circle over and over again, gaining momentum each turn.  Don't worry if your circle looks sloppy.  It doesn't have any bearing on how this experiment will work.  Keep drawing your circle until you almost go through the paper.
Once your circle has been drawn, suspend the pendulum above the center of the circle.  Now, try to move it slowly to the sides.  What you should feel when you attempt to move the pendulum outside of the circle is a definite pressure holding it back.  During my demonstrations to my students with this experiment, I have even seen the pendulum suspended at an angle, not wanting to pass the edge of the circle.

The purpose of this experiment is to show you the power of the circle.  Imagine a larger version, using the conductive properties of salt and water combined with the bio-electric energy of your body.  If it's possible to create a boundary this simply and have it be effective, can you see how your magick circle will be able to contain the energy you raise?  How about the protective properties of the circle?  Try placing the pendulum outside the circle and moving it in through the line you've drawn.
If you don't see results right away with this experiment, please keep trying.  I have seen even the most staid of people feel the energy differences.
Another one you might want to try with this same experiment is to draw a pentagram in the center of the circle.  It's not necessary to try it.  I just thought it was fun to see the differences in the energy at specific points.
Experimentation is key to Witchcraft.  It gives you proof of the power available and allows you to find the most effective methods for your practice.

PROTECTION

I thought this might be a good excerpt to share from my book, since it's Tuesday which is ruled by the planet Mars.  Ares or Mars is the Greco/Roman god of war and so lends very potent and powerful energy to any protection spells.

"When should a Witch protect themselves?  AT ALL TIMES!  Here then are some more protection tidbits
  • Bells hung from the doors guard against intruders and stagnant energy.  Hang them where the air current can ring them.  They will set up movement in the air and clear the psychic debris from your home.  When I managed a new age shop, I used to use them when negative people came in the store.  It was very amusing to watch how quickly they would leave.  Not to mention, they are very good feng shui.
  •  An onion on your kitchen window will absorb ill will.  When it starts to decay, replace it and throw away the old one.  Under no circumstances should the old onion be used or eaten.
  • Salt water left out in the center of a room all night will absorb negativity.  Wash it away with flowing water the next morning.  A small dish on your nightstand has the same effect for a good night’s rest.
  • A large amethyst is powerful protection against psychic vampires.  You know who I’m talking about…those people who just seem to drain you when they’re around.
  • Healthy house plants, especially ferns and ivy, will create an aura of protective energy.  Again, another feng shui remedy.  Just be sure your children or pets can’t reach any poisonous plants.
  • Totem animal statues or pictures can be blessed and used to protect your home.
  • Native American dream catchers are also used to catch and tangle up negative energy before it has a chance to enter your dreams."

The Witch's Pyramid

Yet another excerpt from my soon-to-be-released book...

"As I was perusing the library shelves one day, I came across numerous books on creating your life through visualization and positive thinking.  Reading through all those books, I started to realize, “O my goddess!  This is the Witch’s Pyramid!”  Here were all these new releases teaching a concept that has been passed down through generations of Witches.  My first thought was, “Foolish mortals…it’s about time.”  So, if you’ve been reading a lot of self-help and positive thinking books, you may recognize the similarity to the Witch’s Pyramid.
I wrote it in rhyming fashion to make it easier to remember, as well as an attempt to make it fun.  Included is a more detailed description, in case the poem doesn't cut it.

The Witch’s Pyramid begins at the base.
Remember these corners, if its peak you would trace:
First, Imagination is fueled by desire,
Then ritual raises the energy higher.
Next, energy is molded and shaped by Will,
Then focused by the spell designed to fulfill.
Faith feeds desires with enthusiasm and love,
So relax, let go and be confident it will come.
But, continue in Secrecy, protect with closed mouth;
Lest the energy be weakened or scatter about.
When balanced and functioning, the Pyramid is whole;
At the top is Accomplishment of your particular goal."

Hope this inspires you to start creating the wonderful life you deserve.

The All

Here is an excerpt from my soon to be released book tentatively titled, "Awakening the Witch."  This particular passage is an introduction to the gods and goddesses of Wicca.

"Most Witches accept that there is an Ultimate Source the All, the Universal Mind, whatever you choose to call it.  It is Void, yet Everywhere; Unknowable, yet contained within all things.  The fact that the All is so abstract that we cannot understand it is exactly why we don't try to tap into it.  This then brings us to more understandable ways of tapping its power...
...Think of the All as a prism.  Have you ever seen the sun shine through a prism hanging in the window?  You see how it creates a rainbow of colors?  Those different colors are the gods and goddesses, and they're all coming from the same light.  They are simply perceived differently by their angles.  Now if you were to play a little with the prism and change its position, you would find that you can refract a certain color.  In this same manner, Witches are taught that specific gods or goddesses will focus specific energy."

Hope you enjoyed!

2011...A Birds-eye View

I decided to ask our animal comrades for a message for my readers for 2011.  I feel like we all need a boost of energy, and certainly some of us could use a little kick to get us on our way.  Considering the fact that the coming year vibrates to the number 4, meaning solid foundation, it is no surprise that the reading became one of independence and confidence.
Well, Cardinal came and his message is pretty straightforward.  He seems to be telling us, "Wake up!".  With his incessant chirping, he brings a message of personal power.  Stop shrinking from your destiny. Stop pretending that you are less than.
Cardinal Medicine renews vitality in life and returns joy, brilliance and balance to the mind, body and spirit.  He awakens spiritual transformations, intellectual insights and heightens intuitions and perceptions.  Cardinal aids in manifesting dreams and ideas by focussing intentions where it's needed.  He adds color and balance to life and demonstrates that everything you do is important.  He aids in understanding and helping you find your own song in life.
Are you doing what needs to be done or should be done?  If you are unsure of your path, you can ask Cardinal to fly with you.  Be assured, he will help you focus, gain clarity, formulate a plan, become self-assured, and step out into the world with the knowledge that you are a powerful and capable person.

Abundant Energy from the Universe

There are beings in the faery realm that wield an energy like no other.  Their magick is pure, wild, untamed and exciting.  At first meeting, I assumed through the stained glass effect of my mind that they must be associated with the element of fire.  Thankfully, they were more than willing to show me differently.
This magick is powerful...it is the pure energy of spirit in the Void; the whipping and thrashing of arctic winds; the undeniable power of the tidal wave; the brutal force of an earthquake; and the primal, consuming chaos that is fire.  This energy is not grounded.  It's not meant to be.  These are the beings we encounter when we find ourselves pushing through the barriers, forcing our mark on the world.
So far, this all sounds a bit negative, I realize.  On the contrary, there are times that call for this amazing energy.  Though these beings are not grounded, we as humans must remember to keep our feet firmly on the earth.  Don't get swept away by their enthusiastic momentum, but do take advantage of it.  Their brand of magick encourages us to be especially attentive to what we are doing with our own energy and intentions.  We can accomplish a great deal with their magick, but we must first breathe slowly, center and earth ourselves.  Be very clear about your objectives and then use this power to create your world.
