The Light is Born

I learned the Winter Solstice holiday as Modranecht or Mother Night. From the darkness of the Goddess Mother's womb, the Child of Light is born...the Sun. To the Ancients, winter was a very harsh reality. Food and warmth was a major priority. With scarcity of both, It's one more reason why food was and is still given as a gift during this time of year. It was and is still a time for families to come together. All the trappings of modern-day Christmas come into play as well. The Evergreen or Yule Tree represents the Eternal nature of the seasonal cycle and is decorated with light to honor the Sun. Red and green are colors that symbolize vitality and growth and so were used to bring life into the home.
So...whatever your path, please remember this holiday season: We are the Circle, so let it be cast...with hand touching hand, from first to last.
